Hey Nonprofit Leader—What’s Keeping You Awake at Night?
Let’s be real. Running a nonprofit isn't for the faint of heart. Between donor drama, staff turnover, grant deadlines, and a Board member who thinks strategy means picking the lunch menu—you’ve got a lot on your plate.
And if your response to yet another challenge is: “It’s not in the budget!”...then you're my people.
As a former Executive Director myself (shout out to my time at Desert Best Friend’s Closet), I get it. When funds are tight, hiring a consultant feels like a luxury. But what if it's the exact thing you need to stop spinning your wheels and start gaining traction?
So how do you know it’s time to bring in outside help? Here are some clues:
When You Need Fresh Perspective or Expertise:
You're stuck. You keep having the same conversation... and the same problems.
You’ve stalled. Great idea, no follow-through. Or no time. Or no idea how.
You're outside your lane. Grant writing? HR? Strategic planning? You're doing it all, and none of it feels great.
You need a unicorn. AKA: someone with specialized skills your team doesn't have
When You're Facing Real Challenges:
Goals? What goals? You're not meeting them—and you're not sure why.
Flatlining. Your org isn’t in crisis, but it sure isn’t growing either.
Losing money. And worse, you don’t know where the leak is.
Crisis mode. Enough said.
When You're Managing Big Changes:
Executive transition?
New systems or programs?
Overworked team with no capacity?
Yup, that's consultant territory.
When You Need a Neutral Party:
You need someone who isn’t emotionally attached, politically entangled, or stuck in “how we’ve always done it.”
Leadership is misaligned, and the group therapy sessions aren't working.
Other Red Flags:
Staff drama.
Volunteer burnout.
Donors ghosting you.
Declining satisfaction from anyone you serve.
Sound familiar? Then it's time to stop trying to duct-tape solutions together and bring in someone who can help you build real, sustainable progress.
What I Do:
Strategic planning. Board training. Leadership coaching. Grant strategy. Executive searches. Fundraising systems. Sounding board sanity sessions. If it helps your nonprofit run better and make a bigger impact—I’m in.
